What is GhostCallers?

GhostCallers is a free US reverse phone lookup service. You can search any US number to see reports left by other people, and you can add your own experience anonymously.

Is GhostCallers free?

Yes — searching and reading reports is free for everyone. We are funded by display advertising and never sell user data.

Do I need an account to use GhostCallers?

No. Searching is anonymous and you can submit a report without signing up. We use a salted hash of your IP for rate-limiting only, never linked to identity.

How is the scam score calculated?

The scam score is a 0–100 community signal. It is calculated from the number, recency, and category of reports submitted by other users. Reports tagged as "scam" or "fraud" push the score up; reports tagged as "legitimate" push it down.

How accurate are the reports?

Reports are user-submitted opinions, not facts. We moderate on a best-effort basis, but you should always read several reports and make your own judgement. Do not return calls to numbers you do not recognize on the basis of the score alone.

Can someone identify me from a report I submit?

No personally-identifying data is stored. Your IP is hashed with a salt before storage and only used to prevent duplicate or spammy submissions.

Can I remove my number from GhostCallers?

Yes. Use our data removal form and we will action your request within 7 business days. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA.

Why is my number on GhostCallers? I have not done anything wrong.

Numbers are listed because they have been searched or reported by other people. This can happen if your number has been spoofed by a scammer, mistyped by another user, or if a previous owner of the number was reported. Use the data removal form to request removal.

What number formats does GhostCallers accept?

Any standard US format works: (415) 555-1234, 415-555-1234, 415.555.1234, 4155551234, or +1 415 555 1234. We normalize them all automatically to the same record.

Does GhostCallers work for toll-free and premium-rate numbers?

Yes. Toll-free prefixes (800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, 888) and the premium-rate prefix (900) are all supported alongside every geographic area code.

Are mobile and landline numbers treated differently?

No — in the US, you can't tell a cell number from a landline by looking at it. Both are searchable the same way on GhostCallers.

How do I stop scam calls in the US?

Register at donotcall.gov (free, lasts permanently), enable your carrier's free spam-blocking tool (AT&T ActiveArmor, Verizon Call Filter, T-Mobile Scam Shield), block individual numbers in your handset, and forward spam texts to 7726.

I lost money to a scam — what should I do?

Call your bank immediately (use the number on the back of your card). Report the scam at reportfraud.ftc.gov or call 1-877-FTC-HELP. For online crime, file at ic3.gov. Add the calling number to GhostCallers so other people are warned.

Does GhostCallers cover Canada or Mexico?

No, we focus on US numbers only. Canada and the Caribbean share the same NANP, but we don't list those numbers — each country has different scam patterns and regulators.
